There are lots of organisations in York that can offer support, information and advice for young carers and their families. This page brings together services that may help with wellbeing, education, special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), mental health, family support and staying safe.
CAMHS provides free NHS assessment and treatment for young people (up to 18) with moderate to severe mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders, ADHD, and trauma, using various therapies (talking, creative, family), self-management, and sometimes medication, involving a multidisciplinary team to support the child and family.
As part of Change Grow Live, The Gate is their service for young people aged 25 and under in York. They provide support for anyone who is concerned about their own or somebody else’s drug or alcohol use.
Child Bereavement UK helps families to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. They support children and young people (up to the age of 25) when someone important to them has died or is not expected to live, and parents and the wider family when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying.
Childline is a free, confidential 24/7 service in the UK run by the NSPCC, offering support for children and young people (up to 19) on any issue, big or small, via phone (0800 1111), 1-2-1 chat, email, and online resources, with trained counsellors providing non-judgmental help for problems like bullying, mental health, family issues, and abuse.

The Healthy Child Service delivers information, advice and support for children and parents of children aged 0 to 19 years old.
Your Healthy Child Service team consists of:
- Health Visitors
- School nurses
- Children and Young People Health Outreach Nurses
- Child Health and Development Workers
- Healthy Child Screening and Support Officers
IDAS is the largest specialist charity in the North supporting people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence.

The Parent Carer Forum York is an independent charity made up of parents and carers of children or young people with additional needs or disabilities (0-25) who live in York. They are a voluntary organisation.
Decision makers within Health, Education and Social Care work with the Parent Carer Forum to ensure that provision and services are informed by their expertise and lived experience.
In order to ensure they are representing York Parent Carer voices correctly they:
- Organise and attend social events
- Offer a community of peer support
- Share information and signpost services
- Work closely with professionals within York
The Raise York website is designed to support parents, carers, children, young people and anyone who works with children, young people and families.
They can provide you with information and advice about:

- health and wellbeing

- speech, language and communication
- childcare

- education
Support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and their parents and carers. They provide a free, impartial and confidential service to help with concerns or questions around education, health, social care, inclusion and preparing for adulthood.
SEND CENTRAL is York’s Family Hub that specialises in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is a hub where families can seek advice and information about what’s available in York when they have children and young people who have additional needs, any age from 0 to 25.
Includes information about supporting sibling children, talking about disability and supporting siblings with their feelings.
The Island is a charity in York providing islands of space and time for children and young people, aged 8-18 years; building confidence, self-esteem and unlocking potential through positive mentoring relationships and unique programmes.
YorMind webpages aimed towards under 25’s. Contains information on conditions, support, services and their podcast, Chat-Chit.
York Inspirational Kids is a group for young people who have a learning or physical disability, autism or other neurodivergence, and those who support them.
Through one-to-one and group-based support, Mind helps adults and young people to build independence in coping with mental health struggles. Their services are confidential and prioritises listening to adults and young people, shaping the support to fit their needs wherever possible.
