Support is available to you

You might not see yourself as a carer, but if you regularly support someone without being paid because of illness, disability, mental health needs, addiction or frailty, you are a carer.

This page is a good place to start. It will help you recognise your caring role and guide you to the right support, whether you want to register with us, talk to someone, request a Carers Assessment of Need, or simply find helpful tips and information. You do not have to manage caring on your own — support is available when you need it.

A woman sits at a table in a bright, modern room, listening attentively to someone raising their hand in front of her. She has a calm, welcoming expression and is holding a pen, with two colourful laptops open on the table. Shelving and soft natural light appear in the background, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere.

How do I know if I am a carer?

You might not see yourself as a carer, but if you support someone unpaid due to illness, disability, mental health needs or frailty, you are a carer. Recognising your role can help you access support, reduce isolation and understand your rights.
