Training can help you feel more confident in recognising unpaid carers and understanding how to support them

On this page you’ll find two options: our Group Carer Awareness Training (a free, two-hour online session with discussion and lived experience from a volunteer carer champion) and our Online Carer Training Courses (short, flexible modules you can complete in your own time). Use the drop-down sections below to read more and find out how to book.

Free two-hour sessions online offering an introduction to York Carers Centre and looking at how anyone in the community can identify and support unpaid carers.

  • It is an opportunity for professionals to learn more about the support available for unpaid carers across the city.
  • Increase understanding of carers, their role and its effect on their lives.
  • Opportunity to explore how professionals working in the health and social care field, or anyone in the community, can help to: identify carers early; recognise them as ‘partners’ in care; help carers to maintain their own health and wellbeing.

The sessions include a presentation from our Volunteer and Training Officer, which entails sharing information around current carer issues.  There is also the chance for discussions around barriers and challenges carers might face.  In addition, there is the opportunity to hear from a carer (either online or in a film) talking about their experience of caring and what types of support can help.

To book a place you will need to access York Learning Pool and create an account here (if you don’t already have an account)

Our online training website helps you to learn more about carers and how you can support carers.

Each course is designed to help you increase your knowledge about carers, their rights and some of the challenges they encounter. It includes opinions and contributions from carers and professionals. The course will give you information about what you personally can do to support carers and where to go for specialist support.
