Staff profiles - Young Carers

The Young Carer Team is made up of the Young Carer Lead Officer, two Young Carer Support Workers, and a group of dedicated volunteers. They work in close partnership with the Young Adult Carer Team, the Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), and the Family Support Worker to provide comprehensive support to Young Carers and families.

The Young Carers service is funded by City of York Council.

Lead Officer - Young Carers

I am a Young Carer Support Worker, having joined the team in July 2024. In my role, I work in schools and youth clubs, provide one-to-one support to young people, and organise holiday activities.

Most of my career has been in education, where I have worked as a primary school teacher, Deputy Head, and SENCO in York. I am passionate about helping young people overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Young Carer Support Worker

I am a Young Carer Support Worker and joined the team in January 2024. My role involves completing young carer assessments, providing one-to-one support, and visiting schools. I also help to organise and run regular youth clubs, small group work, and holiday activities.

My role is really varied and provides me with the opportunity to meet lots of new people from all different backgrounds. It’s great to help provide enriching activities for young people who otherwise may not have the opportunity to do so.

Young Carer Support Worker

I am a support worker with the young carers team, having joined the team in December 2024. In my role, I support our monthly youth clubs and groups, provide one-to-one support to young people, carry out assessments, and organise and take part in holiday activities. I work closely with 3 secondary schools to run lunch time drop-in sessions and support the schools to improve their offer for young carers.

All of my career has been in education, where I have worked as a primary school teacher and Early Years leader. This job is great for me as I really enjoy working with young people and supporting them to try new activities that they may not have had the opportunity to do without our service.

CBT Therapist

Since joining York Carers Centre in 2011, I have worked across all areas of the charity.

In 2019, I trained as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and now provide therapy to Young Carers and Young Adult Carers aged 11-25, funded by the National Lottery.

I am passionate about helping carers understand their feelings and teaching them strategies to manage and improve their well-being.

Family Support Worker

I am a Family Support Worker, working four days a week. I joined the charity in January 2024, bringing experience from both charitable organisations and statutory agencies.

I enjoy meeting families and ensuring they receive effective support while being genuinely heard. It is crucial for parents, carers, and their children to know they are not alone, and that support is available to them.
