Lead Officer - Adult Carers

In my role, I lead the Adult Team in delivering support for carers across the City of York. This includes coordinating groups, activities, awareness work, and essential information to ensure carers feel connected and supported. I also chair the Carers Action Group, providing a welcoming space where carers can come together, raise issues, and influence positive change.

With a career history in the voluntary sector and in a range of support‑focused roles, I joined the York Carers Centre team in 2025. The best part of my job is the people I work with every day—from carers and partner organisations to our dedicated team of Carer Support Workers and Advice Workers. Their passion and commitment make our work meaningful and impactful.

Adult Carer Support Worker

I am an Adult Carer Support Worker, providing support to Adult Carers. My diverse role includes conducting statutory assessments, such as Carer Assessments of Need, Annual Reviews, and Carer Support Plans. I work one-to-one with carers and support our Carer Hubs (peer support groups) and regular Wellbeing Activities.

With 24 years of experience in the voluntary sector in York, I joined York Carers Centre in 2023.

The best part of my job is working creatively alongside carers and offering personalised support. For some, this means providing a listening ear; for others, it involves offering practical support, information, advice, and guidance. I thoroughly enjoy all aspects of this varied role.

Adult Carer Support Worker

As an adult carer support worker, we specialise in offering a range of personalised support to all types of carers. This includes Carers Assessment of Need and reviews, emotional support as well as outreach support through Carer Connect drop ins/a range of wellbeing sessions.

Starting my career in the NHS as an Occupational Therapist, I moved to the role with York Carers Centre late 2016. Since then I have undertaken a range of training including Counselling Skills and ASSIST programme.
The best part of my job is when a carer tells me they feel heard, validated and valued – these conversations can lead to meaningful improvements in wellbeing. Caring is all of our business because it will impact us all at some stage in our lives.

Adult Carer Support Worker

After a career break from Finance and Administration to travel and start a family, I returned to work in 2018 as a Domiciliary Carer. During this time, I pursued studies in Mental Health Awareness, Counselling Skills, and Therapeutic Counselling, becoming a Carer Support Worker in 2023.

In my current role as a member of the Adult Carer Support team, I meet with unpaid carers to discuss their responsibilities and the impact a caring role has on their personal lives and wellbeing, to determine any specialised advice, resources / signposting, or support they may need.

I appreciate the variety in my role and particularly enjoy providing one-to-one support to carers during especially challenging times.

Adult Carer Support Worker

My role is Adult Carer Support worker, working part-time. I contribute to aspects of the Team’s work offering personalised support to all types of carers, focussing on one to one work and wellbeing sessions in particular.

I joined the Carer’s Centre team in 2018, with 30 years experience as a counsellor in the NHS and private practice. My work in that field and my experience as an unpaid carer informs the one to one support I offer. I was able to contribute to establishing the Carers Centre in-house counselling service in 2022, which is now managed by Chloe. I am also a trained Mindfulness teacher and offer sessions to staff and carers at regular intervals. I also have an interest in creative arts.

Outreach Adviser, Integrated Discharge Support Service

I support unpaid carers of people living with dementia, as well as carers of individuals referred through the Frailty Hub. I also provide support to carers whose loved ones are being discharged from hospital, helping them navigate services, access information and feel more confident in their caring role.

The best part of my job is empowering people and building meaningful relationships that help carers feel heard, understood and able to trust in the support we provide. Having recently joined York Carers Centre, I bring a background in coaching, exercise and supporting wellbeing. Alongside my role, I am studying for my CPCAB Counselling qualification to further develop my listening skills and enhance the support I provide to carers. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me rowing with York City Rowing Club, training in weightlifting, listening to music or enjoying gaming.

Outreach Adviser, Integrated Discharge Support Service

I support carers when the person they care for has been admitted to hospital. I also support individuals who are in a new caring role, when hospital discharge plans are being made. This includes ensuring carers have information and advice to navigate services, feel included and involved in discharge plans and have the ongoing support they may need.

I joined York Carers Centre in 2026, with 20 years experience working as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS and adult social care, both in hospital and community settings. I enjoy working as part of a team to support and enable people with their everyday well being. Outside of work you’ll find me reading or at a music concert.
