Staff Profiles - Adult Carers Mental Health Team

The Mental Health Team comprises of a Senior Manager for Mental Health, Senior Carer Peer Support Workers and Carer Peer Support Workers. We work with adults who support someone with a serious mental illness, offering peer support, advice and information. We run two Mental Health Carer Groups, and support Foss Park Hospital in running their Carer Group. We arrange events and days out for carers to enjoy some respite and relaxation.

Senior Manager - Pathway to Recovery and Community Mental Health Hub

I am registered with York Carers Centre as a Mental Health Parent Carer. Having personally faced the challenges of navigating various services for families, I realised I could offer support, advice, and encouragement to others in similar situations.

With a background in hospitality leadership, I joined York Carers Centre in April 2022 as a Carer Peer Support Worker. I am now the Senior Manager on the Pathway to Recovery project and the Community Mental Health Hub. This role involves collaboration with organisations such as the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, City of York Council, MIND, Foss Park Hospital, and others…

I am committed to advocating for the needs of unpaid carers within mental health services, with a focus on improving their experiences and ensuring their voices are heard and valued.

After working for a North Yorkshire Hospice Charity in senior roles for over 10 years, I decided to take a career break in early 2025, I felt I needed to take some time to reset and reevaluate. After a 9 month break, I had made the decision to use both my personal and professional experience to support others and started my role with the Carers Centre in November 2025.

I had been a carer for my late wife who had suffered from a mental health illness and understand first-hand the challenges carers face especially when looking after someone with complex mental health needs. I also have a good understanding of bereavement and stages of grief alongside trauma.

Senior Carer Peer Support Worker

I'm a Senior Carer Peer Support Worker based at the 24/7 Mental Health Hub at Acomb Garth. I've spent the last 20 years working in various advice and support roles ranging from work and learning to social care and most recently as a coordinator in supported accommodation.

In my current role, I’m here to support Adult Carers in whatever way works best for them – whether that’s a cuppa and a chat, joining a wellbeing or peer support group, or linking in with a specialist colleague. My aim is that I can support people in whatever way works best for them.

I am a Carer Peer Support Worker for Mental Health Carers on the Pathway to Recovery (P2R) project. I joined York Carers Centre in 2021 after spending several years caring for my own family members.

As an unpaid carer, it’s common to feel that you are invisible, and your efforts are unnoticed. I am passionate about working for an organisation that ensures carers feel seen and heard.

I am a Carer Peer Support Worker for the Mental Health Carers on the Pathway to Recovery (P2R) project.
I joined York Carers Centre after caring for my mum, who lived with dementia.

Through my own experience, I understand how overwhelming and isolating caring can feel, especially when faced with unfamiliar situations and don’t know where to turn. I wanted to use that experience to support other carers, helping them feel listened to ,supported and reassured that they don’t have to face their caring journey alone.

I spent many years as a Family Counsellor then found myself in a caring role, first for a parent with dementia and then for my son with psychosis. This personal journey led me to consider how I could support others navigating similar crises.

Carers often find solace in connecting with someone who has experienced similar trauma. It is a humbling and rewarding role to listen to carer stories and support them as they seek the necessary treatment for their loved ones.
