Our commitment
We are committed to taking meaningful action on equality, diversity and inclusion.
We believe that diversity enriches our community — bringing together a wide range of experiences, perspectives and backgrounds that strengthen everything we do.
What Equality, Diversity & Inclusion means to us
We think about equality, diversity and inclusion in its broadest sense.
This includes all protected characteristics, as well as factors such as social class, age and employment status. We aim to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected and able to thrive.
Our vision
We are dedicated to becoming a more equal, diverse and inclusive employer and service provider.
Our goal is to work with — and become more representative of — the communities we serve. By embedding ED&I into our culture, we believe we can deliver more impactful, meaningful and accessible services.
How we drive progress
Our ED&I Steering Group meets quarterly to review our progress, develop actions and continue improving the way we work. We are proud of the steps we’ve taken so far, but we recognise that this is ongoing work and we are committed to doing more.
What we’ve achieved so far
- We have a stall each year at York Pride, celebrating and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
- We have signed City of York Council’s Anti-racism Pledge, reinforcing our stance against all forms of racism.
- ED&I is included within our staff training, covering areas such as cultural diversity and neurodiversity.
- ED&I forms a core part of our staff induction, and new team members are invited to join the ED&I Steering Group.
- During recruitment, we ensure all applicants’ access needs are recognised and supported.
- All of our venues are fully accessible, ensuring everyone can take part in our services.
Our ongoing commitment
We know there is always more we can do — and we are committed to continually improving.
We will keep listening, learning and taking action to ensure that equality, diversity and inclusion remain at the heart of everything we do.
