Caring and Coping: Talking about loss

In August we’ll be running a series of free Caring and Coping sessions (via Zoom), covering a range of topics chosen to support your own well being as a carer.
Each session is stand alone, so you can just book onto the individual session/s that you choose.

This session will be about:

  • Talking about Loss with Kathy Collinson, bereavement counsellor. A supportive session to discuss feelings of loss or grief of any sort.

Substance misuse and gambling carers group (on Zoom)

A new monthly support group for people who are supporting loved ones through issues with substance misuse and/or gambling.

We know that some carers may find it difficult to attend groups during the day, so this new support group is available in the evenings, on Zoom.

What will you need to take part:

You’ll need access to a device with a camera (phone/laptop/tablet), internet access, an email address and access to the Zoom app

How to book:

  • Contact our reception on enquiries@yorkcarerscentre.co.uk or 01904 715 490 to book a space
  • Our facilitator will offer you a 30 minute telephone appointment prior to the group
  • Everyone joining the group will have read and returned a confidentiality agreement to take part in the Zoom call, and be provided with a confidential link to the meeting

This session will be about:

  • Five Ways to Wellbeing with Amanda Longstaff  from Peace of Mind. The session will look at how we can manage stress, improve resilience and try to maintain a positive mindset in a chaotic world.  You will also have the opportunity to experience a guided visualisation which is a method that can be helpful when we are feeling overwhelmed.

  • Let’s Talk about Food with Sabine Horner, nutritionist from Asana Nutrition. Interactive session with cooking demonstration and Q&A about the basic facts you need to know about food to help you look after yourself and improve your energy levels, mental focus and mood

Substance Misuse Carers Group (on zoom)

During the current period of social distancing we will be running some of our support groups virtually, via zoom.

This session is for people affected by someone else’s substance misuse and is a chance to talk to other carers and our staff.

New members are welcome to take part, and if you haven’t attended our substance misuse carer groups before our facilitator Sam Ferguson will ring you prior to the session to asses your needs.

What will you need to take part:

You’ll need access to a device with a camera (phone/laptop/tablet), internet access, an email address and access to the Zoom app

How to book:

  • We will email you a meeting agreement to read and return
  • You will be sent a Zoom meeting ID and password for each individual meeting to enable you to log in

Carers Social *in the evening*

It’s good to talk, so join our Carer Support Workers and other carers for our our friendly monthly chat on zoom.

Bring a cup of tea and log in using the secure zoom link you’ll be provided with.

If you’re new to Zoom and would like any support setting it up, or would like to know more about the Social then please contact us, we’re happy to help.
