Pension Credit Guarantee Credit

Pension credit guarantee credit can be claimed if you are over state pension age and on a low income.

There is no upper capital limit for Pension Credit. If you have capital over £10,000, the amounts of deemed income allowance will reduce your weekly Pension Credit at a rate of £1 per £500 per week.

The standard amount of Pension credit can be increased where you are responsible for a child including a disabled child, or you are in receipt of a disability benefit, live alone, and no-one gets Carers Allowance for looking after you, or you receive, or have underlying entitlement to, Carers Allowance.

Note: If you receive the severe disability addition on your Pension Credit, this may be affected if someone actually receives either Carers Allowance or Universal Credit, carer element of Universal Credit, for looking after you. For help with rental housing costs, you should claim pension-age Housing Benefit from your local authority.
