Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for children

There are two components to child DLA: a care component and a mobility component; you can get one or both of these. DLA is non-means tested so your income or capital does not affect entitlement.

DLA is disregarded as income for benefits such as universal credit. It may entitle you to extra amount of Universal Credit, such as the disabled child element.

You can get DLA for your child if they need help with personal care, or supervision to avoid danger to themselves or others, or they need help with getting around outdoors.

An award of the middle or high rate of the care component allows you to claim Carers Allowance.
