Substance misuse

Who do we support?

Are you affected by someone else’s drinking or drug use? If so, you are a carer and we can offer support to you. We offer support to anyone who is affected by substance misuse. This includes parents, partners, children, siblings, grandparents and friends.

Carers can access our services, and there is a substance misuse carer support group on the third Wednesday of the month, 1.30 to 3.30pm at Tesco Community Room, Askham Bar, York. for details of each month’s session see our events calendar.

For more information on this please contact us on 01904 715490 or email enquiries@yorkcarerscentre.co.uk.

At the base of this page on the right are some digital stories produced by STRETCH Charity where  some of our carers share their experiences of caring for a loved one with a drug and/or alcohol problem and how York Carers Centre has helped them.

ADFAM are a national charity working to improve support for those affected by someone else’s substance use.  They provide information on their website for carers and families. They also support organisations like ours who work with carers and families.  Visit their website for information created for carers and families affected by someone else’s substance misuse. ADFAM have produced a worksheet on boundaries which we have found useful in our work with carers, the link to this is below.
