Wellness

Caring for someone can be deeply meaningful, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding.

When you are focused on supporting another person, it’s easy to put your own needs last. However, looking after your own wellbeing is not a luxury – it’s an essential part of being able to care for others over time.

Staying well as a carer means paying attention to your physical health, emotional resilience, and everyday balance. This might include getting enough rest where possible, eating regularly, finding moments to move your body, and having someone you can talk to about how you’re feeling. It also means recognising when caring feels overwhelming and knowing that asking for help is a sign of strength, not failure.

Every carer’s situation is different, and there is no “right” way to feel. What matters is giving yourself permission to look after your own wellbeing alongside your caring role. By taking small, realistic steps to care for yourself, you can protect your health, reduce stress, and build the energy you need to continue caring in a way that is sustainable for you.

There is a lot of information out there about how to stay well, but we are all different and finding what helps you to stop and focus on yourself is not always easy.  We offer wellbeing support to carers through our Carer Connect groups; wellbeing activities and one to one support so have a look at our events page or get in touch if this is something you would like to talk through with a Carer Support Worker.
