Bishopthorpe Palace Staff and the Archbishop of York Unite in a Sponsored Wild Swim for York Carers Centre

Bishopthorpe Palace staff and the Archbishop of York took part in a sponsored wild swim to raise money for their chosen charity, York Carers Centre, in a bid to raise £1,000 over the next coming months.

Their decision to support York Carers Centre was inspired by the personal experience of a member of staff who has seen first-hand the invaluable support the charity provides to unpaid carers and their families. Their experience resonated with colleagues across the Palace, who were keen to support a local organisation making a meaningful impact in the York community.

To reach their fundraising goal, staff are taking part in a variety of events, including a staff brunch. Every pound raised will go towards helping York Carers Centre continue its work supporting unpaid carers throughout the city.

While the fundraising will benefit local carers, it has also had a positive impact within the Palace itself. Bringing colleagues together outside of their day-to-day roles has helped strengthen relationships, improve morale and create opportunities for staff from different teams to get to know one another.

Many people do not recognise themselves as carers, but see themselves as family members, friends and neighbours, doing what needs to be done for someone close to them.

However, juggling this with work and family life, sometimes without the right information or support can be really challenging, and that is why organisations like York Carers Centre are so important

As fundraising continues throughout the year, the team hopes not only to reach its £1,000 target but also to raise awareness of the invaluable contribution unpaid carers make to the lives of so many people across York.
