Men’s Group at The Hut

The Hut York is a safe space for people with enduring mental health issues and/or learning disabilities to learn, socialise and develop new skills. It is based in the Clarence Garden buildings on Wigginton Road, just opposite York Hospital.

On Wednesday afternoons, 3 to 4pm, they run a Men’s Group; open to all men searching for a welcoming sanctuary of safety and understanding.

The only requirements are compassion, honesty, integrity, fun and respect.

Jonny Polhill, Activities Coordinator says “The men’s group offers our male members a space for them to ask for help or to give help to their fellow member via their own experiences.   Members are asked if they have anything which they would like to talk about; the group is theirs to use however they see fit.   I am only there to facilitate and share my own experiences.  Every week there is a subject that I have thought of prior to the meeting these have included: religion, medication, technology, and dealing with anger, families, however the group takes the discussion where they want it to go.

The group is fun and we do chat about subjects not to serious as I believe this is just as important as to have a space to have fun and make valued friendships.  We would like to eventually expand the group in numbers and also in time including classes or groups teaching different skills and in due course trips out around York.”

If you have any questions about the group please contact Jonny, Activities Coordinator on 01904 652991 or jonnypolhill@thehutyork.co.uk
