Volunteer for York Carers Centre

Volunteer logoWe are looking for new volunteers to:

  1. run stalls to promote the Centre (see Volunteer Promotional Worker)
  2. help carers complete forms (see Volunteer Benefits Adviser - forms)
  3. give advice to carers (see Volunteer Benefits Adviser - advice)
  4. help mail out our newsletters (see Newsletter Volunteer)

Each volunteer role has a description so you can find something that suits you.  All volunteers will get training and ongoing support from York Carers Centre. Some roles will need an enhanced CRB check that we would arrange and pay for. Expenses will also be paid.

Volunteering is very rewarding as you can help carers and is a chance to try something new or to develop existing skills and knowledge.  You will also meet new people, improve your self confidence and have fun.

If you have caring experience you are very valuable as you will know what it is like being a carer. However, we also welcome volunteers from all kinds of  backgrounds, particularly if you have work experience in a specific area.

Our volunteer roles

1. Volunteer Promotional Worker

We promote York Carers Centre at lots of different events in York.  We want volunteers to help us run stalls at village fetes and fairs over summer.  Volunteers will set up the stalls (which may include tombolas and other games to attract people) and then speak to anyone who approaches the stall about the Centre. This role would suit someone who is confident,
approachable and enjoys talking to people.

For more information please download the Volunteer promotional worker role description at the bottom of this page.  If you want to apply please download and complete the application form that is also at the bottom of this page.

2. Volunteer Benefits Adviser (forms)

Would you like to help people apply for the support they need?  Carers often find applying for benefits, such as Carers Allowance and Disability Living Allowance, a bit daunting.  We would like volunteers who are able to visit carers at home and help them complete their forms.  Training on welfare benefits would be given.  This role would suit someone who is good at listening and is able to talk to other people on a one to one basis.  They would also need to be accurate, literate and confident  working on their own.

For more information please download the Volunteer benefits advisor (forms) role description at the bottom of this page. If you want to apply please download and complete the application form that is also at the bottom of this page.

3. Volunteer Benefits adviser (advice)

The Volunteer Benefits Adviser will assist the Senior Information Advice and Benefits Worker in providing welfare benefits advice and general advice to clients as agreed with the Senior Information Advice and Benefits Worker or Carers Centre Manager.

For more information please download the Volunteer benefits advisor (advice) role description at the bottom of this page. If you want to apply please download and complete the application form that is also at the bottom of this page.

4. Newsletter Volunteer

Come and have a free lunch and a chat every 3 months and help us to stuff this newsletter into envelopes.  This would suit someone who is only able to spare a few hours but who would like to help the Centre.

For more information please download the Newsletter Volunteer role description at the bottom of this page. If you would like to help us with our newsletter please ring us on 01904 715490 or email enquiries@yorkcarerscentre.co.uk and let us have you contact details.
