Welcome to the September email update from York Carers Centre.

Visionary exhibition – Information and services for visually impaired people

This is free and open to everyone – just turn up on Thursday 6 October 2011, between 10am to 3pm at the Exhibition Centre, Heslington Campus, University of York. There are lots of organisations displaying products and services including Action for Blind People, RNIB, Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, Macular Disease Society, Thomas Pocklington Trust. New group for carers at St.Paul’s church, Holgate

Are you feeling the strain of looking after an elderly relative or neighbour, a child with additional needs or a partner who is ill? Need a bit of support yourself?  There is a new group for carers called ‘Help for the helper’ where carers can have a coffee, talk to other people in a similar situation and share helpful information.  The group meets next on Wednesday 2 November at 7.30pm. New book club for women – sharing thoughts and tea

The History and Cake Ladies Book Club is starting on Tuesday evenings in Barley Hall, Stonegate.  It is a historic fiction book club that offers women a chance to make friends, explore history and eat cake.  It will also include trips to sites and museums.  To join contact Hannah Baxter at York Archaeological Trust on 01904 663020 or email: hbaxter@yorkat.co.uk
