October 2011 email update

Posted in

Welcome to the October email update from York Carers Centre.

New schools card for young carers

The idea of the card is that each young carer can carry one and if they feel like they need some extra support, time or consideration they can show the card and their school will offer support accordingly. The scheme will be trialled in 2 schools and 2 colleges in the city with the intention that other schools will get involved early next year. Contact York Carers Centre on 715490 if you would like more information.

Get Online week

This year's Get Online week runs from 30 October to 6 November and it's all about giving an hour or spending an hour getting people online. Find out more on the City of York Council’s website.

There is also a ‘Get Online’ day at York Explore on Friday 4 November from 10am to 4pm. As well as workshops to show you how to use a mouse, keyboard and other essential skills there will be students from York College to help demystify the internet and tell you what all those strange words mean. For more information or to book a place please contact any York library.

Voluntary parent listening service

Did you know that CANDI offer a listening service run by parents for parents of disabled children and young people? The service will listen to any issues you might want to talk about. Please leave a message on 07519 877 824 or 07858 051 540. The service is run by volunteers and they will try to return your call within a few days.

New deputy manager at York Carers Centre

Our new deputy manager will join us in November.  They will support Carole, the Centre’s manager, and will particularly focus on the financial side of the charity, as well as human resources.
