Carers Rights day on Friday 2 December

Carers Rights Day is a national awareness campaign to help people caring for ill, frail or disabled friends or family to access the financial and practical support they are entitled to. There are several events going on in York to support the campaign.

  • York Carers Centre’s stall at York Hospital  - Between 10am and 4pm on 2 December we have a stall in the reception area of York Hospital. The stall will include a wide range of information for carers, and we will also be selling cards and pre-loved books. The stall is an opportunity to meet carers and to raise awareness about carers with healthcare professionals and other visitors to the hospital.
  • York Carers Forum event at Monkbar hotel - York Carers Forum are holding an information event, art and craft exhibition and Christmas party all rolled into one from 10.30am to 4pm on Friday 2 December. Places are limited so please call 01904 422437 or email yorkcarersforum@tiscali.co.uk to book.

Free online training about dementia awareness

The Social Care Institute for Excellence has created the Open Dementia elearning Programme.  It is aimed at anyone who comes into contact with someone with dementia and provides a general introduction to the disease and the experience of living with dementia. York OCAY Christmas fair

On Thursday 8 December 10am to 4 pm the Older Citizens Advocacy York are holding their Christmas fair in the Guildhall. Admission is free and there is an annual grand raffle and cash prize.

Opening hours over the festive period

York CAaers Centre will close at 5pm on Thursday 22 December 2011 and will not reopen again until 9am on Tuesday 3 January 2012. We will not be checking our answer machine or emails during this period. For more information see www.yorkcarerscentre.co.uk.
