Matty's Hand - play about a young carer

Matty’s Hand is an entertaining, moving and thought provoking show which tells the fictional story of a young carer called Matilda ‘Matty’ Matlock who looks after her recently widowed mother, an MS sufferer. The musical, which has 10 songs specially written for the show, tells how Matty juggles her home responsibilities with the daily pressures of her school life. The show is not politically motivated and the character of Matty has a very positive and solid relationship with her mother, her school and the social services. Matty is not bullied or victimised in any way.

The musical has been written by York based playwright, Adrian Mckay working in partnership with composer Fred Wood, who have collaborated together to produce other original shows, one of which, ‘Penny Lane’, was taken to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2005.
