Hotspots can help you to get help and advice about keeping warm, comfortable and safe in your own home.
Escalating fuel prices, outdated heating systems and inadequate insulation can lead to cold, damp homes that are a risk to residents’ health. Temperatures of below 16°C create a risk of respiratory infections, and below 12°C dexterity is reduced, increasing the likelihood of falls and accidents.
What sort of help is offered
You can be referred for:
- energy efficiency advice( possibly leading to grants for the free heating systems and insulation)
- benefit ‘health’ checks to maximise income, and
- home fire safety checks to minimise fire risks.
If you or someone you know would like to be referred to Hotspots, or require more information please contact the project co-ordinator Chloe on (01904) 554490.
Who has been helped by Hotspots?
Recently, following a Hotspots referral from the City of York Council, The Pension Service visited an 87 year old resident. He and his wife were disabled and their daughter acted as their carer. The visit identified that he was entitled to claim Pension Credit, and he was assisted through the application. The result was an award of £12.17 per week from 10/08/09 through to 1/11/09 and £15.37 from 2/11/2009. By receiving pension credit he is now entitled for the cold weather payments of £25. The customer was delighted with the service given.
