The Carers Strategy Group is the local partnership of people, including carers and professionals from statutory and voluntary sector organisations, whose job is to oversee putting the Carers Strategy Action Plan into practice. The group aims to make sure that support for carers in York is as good as possible.
- The group has a new chairperson: a warm welcome to Paul Murphy, Assistant Director Integrated Commissioning in the Adults Children and Education Directorate at City of York Council.
- Back care support for carers: the group discussed a proposal to invest a small amount of money from ‘Health Gain’ funding made available by the Government. However there was concern that the funding available is a ‘one off’ amount so any project would be time limited.
- A new ‘York Strategy for Carers’: the local Strategy is being renewed including a review of achievements since 2009 and proposed priorities for the next three years.
- Raising the profile of unpaid carers: the group discussed the need for all strategies and plans in York to recognise and include the needs of carers.
