Carers Information Group

A lot of work has been done over the years by the Carers Information Group to develop information for, and about, carers in York. We now have a Carers Information Pack which we continue to change and develop.

What is the Carers Information Task Group?

Earlier in 2011 we agreed that a small ‘Task Group’ (Sarah Fitsell from York Carers Centre; Frances Perry – Carers Strategy Manager and Niall McVicar – Family Information Service Manager from City of York Council; and Laila Fish – Commissioning Manager, NHS North Yorkshire and York) would meet regularly to carry on the work to update and develop information.

What is the Carers Information Reference Group?

We agreed to have a larger ‘Reference Group’ of people including carers and workers who specialise in work with carers. The Reference Group members could be contacted by post and email as well as being invited to occasional meetings.

The Reference Group is next meeting for a drop in session on Tuesday 21 at anytime between 11am and 1pm at City Mills, Skeldergate, York.  

Update  - January 2012

• We are developing a new factsheet ‘Looking after yourself’ and have plans for others including ‘young carers’ and ‘safeguarding and carers’.
• We have produced a postcard to ask carers where information should be available in York.  This will be posted out with the next York Carers Centre’s newsletter but will also be asking members to distribute them in their own organisations/groups.
• We are going to put the Carers Information Pack into an online format so that carers will be able to access it without needing to download and print the pack.
• We are reviewing the pocket guide for carers.  A new draft of this will soon be available for feedback.
• A new version of the self help health checklist will be available soon
• We are starting to work with the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group to identify and train carer champions amongst reception staff from each practice.  We will contact members of the Reference Group to see if they are able to help with this.
